FAQs
Buying from EMMA
Where can I buy EMMA products in Guwahati and the Northeast?
EMMA is supplied across Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Sikkim through Maria Enterpriises, Guwahati, and our appointed dealers. Send an enquiry with your city and we will point you to the nearest supply point, or arrange direct delivery for project quantities.
What does EMMA manufacture?
Eight grades across four families: AAC Block Joining Mortar (40 kg), Premium White Cement Wall Putty (40 kg), Classic Grey tile adhesive in T1, T2 and T3 (20 kg), and Maxi Plus White tile adhesive in T1, T2 and T3 (20 kg).
Can I order directly from this website?
No. This site is a product catalogue and enquiry platform — there is no cart and no online payment. Send an enquiry or call and our team confirms price, availability and delivery, usually within one working day.
Is EMMA cheaper than national brands?
Pricing depends on grade, quantity and delivery location, so we quote rather than publish a price list. What we can promise is that stock sits in Guwahati rather than a distant depot, which usually means faster delivery and lower freight on a Northeast project.
How quickly can you deliver to a site?
For stocked grades in and around Guwahati, usually within a day or two of confirmation. For project quantities or remote districts, we schedule deliveries against your pour and tiling programme — share the dates in your enquiry.
Do you give technical support on site?
Yes. Our technical team advises on grade selection before the job and can visit site for applicator training or to investigate a problem. There is no charge for this on a live project.
FAQs
The company
Who manufactures EMMA products?
EMMA is the construction materials brand of Maria Enterpriises, Guwahati. AAC Block Joining Mortar and the tile adhesive range are manufactured by Tyara Industries at Changsari, Kamrup. Premium White Cement Wall Putty is manufactured by Maria Global Industries at Kaliabor, Nagaon.
How long has EMMA been in the market?
EMMA is the construction chemicals arm of a building materials business that has supplied contractors, builders and industrial clients across Northeast India for years. The brand brings that supply experience into manufactured products of its own.
What makes a regional brand better than a national one here?
Three things: formulations chosen for this climate rather than an all-India average, stock held in Guwahati instead of a depot outside the region, and a technical team you can reach on the phone the same day a problem appears on site.
Which standards does EMMA work to?
IS 15477:2019 for tile adhesives, IS 2250 with ASTM C1660/C270 for AAC block joining mortar, IS 6041:1985 for masonry application practice, and IS 17545:2021 for cement-based wall putty.
Can I visit the office or the plant?
Yes. The marketing office is at B S Tower, M G Road, Guwahati, open Monday to Saturday, 10 AM to 7 PM. Call ahead and we will arrange a plant or warehouse visit for architects, builders and dealers.
Does EMMA supply to government and institutional projects?
Yes. Share the tender or work order requirement and we will provide the technical data sheets, standard compliance details and quantities needed for your documentation.
FAQs
Choosing a product
How do I choose between Classic Grey and Maxi Plus White?
Go by the material you are fixing, not the budget. White marble, translucent stone, glass mosaic, quartz and light-coloured tiles need a white adhesive so grey cement does not shadow through. Everything else can use Classic Grey in the right type.
What is the difference between T1, T2 and T3?
Bond strength and flexibility rise with the number. T1 handles small ceramic tiles indoors, T2 covers large ceramic and vitrified up to 600×600 mm including tile-on-tile, and T3 is for large format, stone, exteriors and high-stress areas.
Which grade do I use for 600×1200 mm tiles?
T3 — grey or white depending on the tile colour — with a full combed bed and back-buttering. Anything above 600×600 mm needs the high-strength grade and adhesive on both the substrate and the tile back.
Can one grade be used for the whole house?
It can, if you pick T3, but it costs more than the job needs on small interior ceramic. Most homes use T2 for floors and vitrified work, T1 for small interior wall tiles, and a white grade wherever marble or light stone appears.
Do you supply to projects as well as retail counters?
Both. Project supply is handled directly by our sales team with scheduled deliveries against your programme; retail runs through our dealer network across the region.
Why is pricing not shown on the website?
Price depends on grade, quantity, delivery location and whether it is a counter sale or a project supply. Sending an enquiry gets you a real figure for your job, usually the same or next working day.
FAQs
AAC Block Joining Mortar
How many blocks does one 40 kg bag lay?
It depends on the block size and joint thickness, so we give a figure against your actual block dimensions rather than a general number. Send the block size in your enquiry and we will work it out with you.
Does it need water curing like cement mortar?
No. That is one of its main advantages on site — it saves both curing time and the water needed to carry out curing on upper floors.
How thick should the joint be?
2–3 mm. If you need a thicker joint to correct level, the course below is out of level — fix that rather than filling the gap with mortar.
Can I use it on fly-ash and concrete blocks too?
Yes. It is designed for AAC, fly-ash and lightweight blocks and bricks, internal and external, in residential and commercial work.
Should blocks be soaked before laying?
No. Blocks must be clean and dust free. In dry weather, dampen the surface lightly with a brush or spray — never soak, as a saturated block starves the mortar of the water it needs to set.
Does a thin joint reduce wall strength?
No. In AAC masonry the weak point is the bond between mortar and block, not the joint thickness. A polymer-modified thin bed bonds to the block face far better than cement-sand mortar, which draws its own water into the porous block.
FAQs
Wall Putty
How many coats of putty are needed?
Two thin coats of 1–1.5 mm each, with 4–6 hours drying between them. One thick coat is the most common cause of cracking putty.
How much area does a 40 kg bag cover?
Roughly 600–720 sq ft for two coats, working on 15–18 sq ft per kg. A rough or very absorbent plaster consumes more — add about 10% for wastage on a typical site.
Can putty be applied directly on brickwork?
No. Putty is a finishing layer over cement plaster or concrete. It is not a plastering material and will not fill out an uneven brick surface.
Can I apply it over old paint?
Only after removing loose and flaking paint and preparing a clean, sound surface. Putty needs direct contact with plaster, concrete or masonry to bond properly.
How long after putty can I paint?
After the second coat has dried completely and been sanded and dusted off — typically the next day in normal weather, longer in high humidity.
Is it suitable for exterior walls?
Yes. It is water resistant and works on interior walls, exterior walls and ceilings, over concrete and cement-plastered surfaces, in both new work and renovation.
FAQs
Classic Grey tile adhesive
Is T2 enough for vitrified floor tiles?
For tiles up to 600×600 mm on a sound interior floor, yes. Above that size, or on an exterior, step up to T3.
Can I lay new tiles over old ones with T2?
Yes — T2 is the minimum grade for tile-on-tile. Clean and degrease the old floor, roughen the glaze mechanically, lift anything hollow and fill those patches level first.
Is T2 suitable for a balcony?
Yes, for moderate-traffic balconies with tiles up to 600×600 mm. For a weather-exposed terrace or a façade, use T3.
What makes T3 different from T2?
Very high bond strength and much greater flexibility. That is what large-format tiles, natural stone and sun-exposed façades need when the tile and the substrate move at different rates.
Can T3 be used on an exterior façade?
Yes — it is the grade for exterior walls, concrete substrates and extreme weather exposure. Use a full combed bed with back-buttering and plan the movement joints before tiling starts.
Is T3 suitable for granite and marble?
For granite and dark natural stone, yes. For white marble, translucent stone and light-coloured material, use Maxi Plus White T3 instead so the grey cement does not shadow through.
FAQs
Maxi Plus White tile adhesive
Is Maxi Plus White T2 safe under white marble?
Yes — it is formulated for exactly that: white marble, translucent stone, glass mosaic, quartz and light-coloured natural stone, with a non-staining white cement base.
How much water per bag?
5.5–6 litres of clean water per 20 kg bag. Mix with a slow-speed mixer to a lump-free creamy paste, let it stand five minutes and re-mix before use.
Can it be used on a kitchen or bathroom wall?
Yes. Kitchens, bathrooms, balconies and commercial interiors are all within its range, on both walls and floors.
Can Maxi Plus White T3 be used in a swimming pool?
Yes — it is the grade for pools, terraces, façades and permanently wet areas. It goes over a waterproofing membrane that has been applied and flood-tested first; the adhesive is water resistant, not a waterproofing layer.
What size tiles does T3 handle?
Large-format porcelain, white marble, granite, engineered stone, glass mosaic and quartz, including exterior cladding. Above 600×600 mm, back-butter the tile as well as the substrate.
Why is flexibility important on a terrace or façade?
A terrace heats in the sun and cools in a downpour within the same hour. The adhesive has to absorb that movement between tile and substrate — a rigid bed tears away from one or the other.
FAQs
Application on site
Can I add cement or sand to make the adhesive stronger?
No. Every EMMA product is factory blended to a fixed polymer-to-binder ratio. Adding cement, sand or any site admixture breaks that balance and reduces bond strength — it is the single most common cause of hollow tiles.
What notch size should the trowel be?
As a working rule: 6 mm for small ceramic, 10 mm for tiles up to 600×600 mm, and 12 mm plus back-buttering for large format and stone. The bed must transfer to at least 80% of the tile back — 95% for exteriors and wet areas.
How much water goes into one bag?
5.5–6 litres of clean water per 20 kg tile adhesive bag, and 35–40% water by weight for wall putty. Mix, let it stand five minutes, then re-mix before use. Never re-temper with extra water once it stiffens.
How long before grouting and foot traffic?
Grout after 24 hours. Keep traffic off for 24–72 hours depending on the area, and protect fresh work from rain for the first 24 hours.
Do I need to soak the tiles before fixing?
No. Soaking is a habit from cement-sand mortar days. Vitrified and porcelain tiles absorb almost no water, so soaking only leaves a film that works against the adhesive. Fix tiles clean and dry.
What happens if the adhesive skins over before I lay the tile?
It will not bond, however hard you press. Scrape the skinned bed off, re-comb fresh adhesive and lay immediately. In hot or windy weather, comb smaller areas at a time.
FAQs
Quality and standards
Are EMMA products BIS certified?
EMMA products are manufactured to BIS standards — IS 15477:2019 for tile adhesives, IS 2250 with ASTM C1660/C270 for AAC block joining mortar, IS 6041:1985 for masonry application practice and IS 17545:2021 for cement-based wall putty.
Can I get a Technical Data Sheet for my project file?
Yes. Send an enquiry with the grade and the project name and we will email the TDS — for your records, for architect approval or for a tender submission.
How is consistency maintained between batches?
Raw materials are checked on intake, blending is factory controlled so the polymer-to-binder ratio stays exact, and tensile adhesion, open time and workability are verified against the applicable IS classification before a batch is released.
What is the shelf life, and how should bags be stored?
Six months from the date of manufacture when stored dry. Keep bags on pallets off the floor, away from damp external walls, covered and unopened, and use older stock first — this matters more in the Northeast than almost anywhere in India.
What do I do if a batch behaves differently on site?
Stop work, note the batch number and manufacturing date printed on the bag, and call us. Record the substrate, the weather and the mixing method. That is usually enough for our technical team to trace what happened.
Does production capacity cover a large project?
EMMA maintains 200 tonnes of production in each product range, so a project can be supplied from consistent batches without switching grades part way through the job.

That is the point of the range — blocks, mortar, adhesive, putty, stone, steel and lighting through one supplier, one point of contact and one set of delivery schedules.
FAQs
Careers
Do I need construction industry experience to apply?
For sales and technical roles it helps, but we hire from adjacent industries too — paints, hardware, cement and building materials retail. For junior roles, attitude and local market knowledge matter more than a specific background.
Where are the roles based?
Guwahati primarily, with field roles covering Assam and the wider Northeast. Plant roles are at Changsari, Kamrup.
What file formats can I attach?
PDF, DOC or DOCX, up to 5 MB. If the upload fails, email the CV to our team directly and mention the role.
How long does the hiring process take?
We review applications weekly. If your profile fits an open role you will hear from us within two weeks, usually for a phone call first, then a meeting at the office.
Is there training for someone new to construction chemicals?
Yes. Product and application training is part of joining — you need to be able to answer a technical question on site, not only quote a price.
Can I apply if no role matches my profile?
Yes. Choose “Open application” in the form and tell us what you do. We keep good profiles on file and call when something opens up.
Still need an answer?
Call the technical desk, or send the question with a photo of the site.
